Hey Joe

Just put your P10Q in place of the ceramic original in my '64 Princeton. Wow!!!
The bottom end just blossomed and the highs are as clear and chimey as a piano.
When I strum an open G chord softly it sounds huge. You were dead on, sounds
like I just removed a thick blanket from over the thing. I must admit, when I
first played through the Princeton I was a little disappointed but now I know
how it was meant to sound. Great advice, great speaker, at an incredible price.
All 3 of my champs are gonna be getting P8R's now since I know where to get them
for what 2 would cost me anywhere else!

Thanks again

Hi Joe,

I just got back my amps this week-end which I was having serviced and
installed the Jensen speakers you sent over to Australia last month.

1 * P12N no bell for the Deluxe Reverb
2 * P10Q's for the Vibrolux Reverb

They are sensational. Clearly the original Oxford speakers on the
Vibrolux inparticular were tired out and muffling the sound. Its as
though they'd had a cold all this time and now the amp can breath more
easily. The Deluxe Reverb sounds killer. Very crisp and clean on the
highs and just the right amount of bottom-end I like for my style of
playing. I'm playing through both amps at the same time (split channels)
to "break the speakers" in for the first 20 hours.

Thanks for your recommendations and prompt service. I have already
recommended your web-site to 2 guitarist / amp-oholic friends here in
Sydney.

all the best,

Pete Helson

Received the speaker today (P10Q). Really sounds wonderful in my Pro Junior.
That speaker really brightened up the sound. This amp really sparkles whereas
it was rather muddy sounding before. The speaker also handles bass better and
cleaner.... the Pro is much cleaner sounding, very
bright and sparkly. That Jensen speaker blows that stock Eminence out of the
water in my humble opinion.

The Pro is much louder and cleaner sounding than
before, I am extremely pleased with the new speaker!!! I am having a strange
feeling that the Blues Junior is going to be jealous and want its own Jensen
before too long! ... Thank you for
your prompt shipping and the fine product! Also, the speaker fit just fine,
absolutely no modifications necessary, a plus! Thanks and I hope that my
information is a help. If you have any more questions about it feel free to
holler. Thank you again, Mike

Hey Joe, Where ya goin' with that gun in your hand ?
I had to drop you a line or two and tell you how wonderful your recomended speaker sounds.
I was restoring a 1963 Silvertone Model 1472. I replaced the power tubes with TungSol 6v6GT, pre-amp tubes Jan Philips 12AX7, Rectifier with a Jan Philips 6X6.

I called you and asked for your opinion on a replacement speaker., You suggested the P12Q. I recieved it, quite promptly I might add, and all I can say is "Holy #^&% !!!"
I realize that this amp is by no means some "holy grail" but in terms of tone this is the best little low wattage "blues machine" Ive ever played out of.

I stuck an SM 57 in its grill and it just drips. This speaker articulates the notes perfectly with a nice cutting mid range.Thank you for your input you were most helpful.
And let me tell anyone who reads this, any questions you may have about finding that "certain tone" that we all search for, do NOT hesitate to contact Joe.
Thank you my friend and Rock On !!!

Hey Joe,

I got the speakers and installed them. Wow, I love the sound. It took a
couple of minutes for the speaker to warm up initially. But when it did,
look out. It got better and better the more I played. This speaker does
well with the bluesy rock style I play. I'm currently using a 96' American
Fender Strat with everything stock. I'm running it through a Dunlop wah into
an Analog Man Silver Mod Ibanez TS808, then into my 64' Fender Bassman and
2x12 cab. I've only put a few hours on the speakers, but the tone so far
has produced the quality sound I wanted to hear. With what I'm using it
really has the attributes that let this amp really shine. To me it has that
classic alnico, round, bell-like tone. I tried celestion copies, and some
C12N's, and it just didn't produce what I was looking for. From what I've
heard so far from these speakers, they have it where it counts. It cleans
up nicely and can get pretty mean when pushed. For the amount of tone you
get for such a small amount of cash, it's hard to go wrong. All in all the
P12Q's fits what I wanted to hear from my setup. Thanks for the
recommendation.

sound great, and I am very pleased. I was surprised at the firm bass that

The new speaker arrived today. I installed it into my Fender Tremolux tweed amp, and voila! We talked about breaking in the speaker and I read a lot of reviews about it online, but I have to say... It sounds pretty good right out of the box! I look forward to it sounding better and better the more I use it.

The old speaker didn't have any tears in the cone, but it definitely was fuzzing out in the lower range (low E string). The new one sounds great. Anyway, I am keeping the old one since it was original issue.

Thanks for your help getting the right product for my application.

Hi Joe,

I installed the P12Q into my '57 Fender Deluxe last night. If you remember,
the original speaker was missing, and there was a Utah Fender speaker
installed. Well, I couldn't believe my ears. The P12Q sounds great. Much
more lively then the Utah. But here's the strange thing. My Deluxe had a
terrible hum before I swapped the speakers. Now the hum is gone -
completely!

Could there have been interference with the tubes from the large ceramic
magnet on the Utah? Or maybe the speaker jack just got worked several times
and is now clean. Whatever happened, I won't know for sure, but my amp now
sounds great.

Thanks for all your help and excellent service.

Received the P12Q yesterday and installed it in a late 90's Fender Deluxe Reverb RI,
which had the original Eminence (Ceramic) 12". To say the P12Q is an upgrade is way
understated, the Deluxe sounds much warmer now, with an nice midrange punch.

I play mostly Fender Telecasters so the warm midrange is essential for me,
the Eminence's mids were like an ice pick to the forehead. The P12Q is "the

I appreciate the great communication and fast shipment. This is my 3rd order

Hi Joe,

Well, the new Jensen P12Q that you recommended as a replacement for the
stock speaker in my Blues Jr. arrived yesterday. I installed it last night
and took my rig off to a trio rehearsal today. I play in an eclectic
little group - drums, trumpet, and me on vocals and guitar. I play a 1966
Guild CE-100D, run a lot of bass lines under my chord work while we do
everything from old Bessie Smith tunes through Nat Cole and various swing
and jazz/blues-oriented stuff - even some covers of seldom-performed tunes
like Jay and the Americans "Cara Mia."

With a varied repertoire like that, I’ve been searching for a nice warm,
fat, clean sound out of my Blues Jr. that I always figured it was in it
somewhere but could never quite get at. I was a little wary of buying a
speaker over the Internet, especially since all the comments seem to come
from the point of view of rock and blues players - a radically different
style and sound than most of what I play.

On your recommendation I decided to try the Jensen P12Q, and I couldn’t be
happier. What a sound! My Guild sounds almost like a big-band horn
section all on its own. Clear, distinct voicings in a nice fat, warm
sound, coming through in a way I’d never heard from my Blues Jr. You can
probably tell from my earlier description that I’m not much on "crunch,"
but even when we were jamming around playing some old rockabilly songs, I
put a little edge on the sound with a Boss Blues Driver, and it was cookin’.

Thanks so much for the recommendation, and especially for taking the time
to talk with me on the phone and discuss my specific needs.

I now have 2 separate guitar speaker cabinets which are powered by my Peavey Supreme 100 watt transtube head. The Peavey has a switch on the back to select 4-8-16 ohms. I have 2 separate channels for speakers out the back and each cabinet is 8 ohms. The Peavey user manual recommends using the 4 ohm setting in this case. I put the C12N in my 72 Deluxe Reverb and it sounds fantastic. I took out
the original oxford as it has had it's day. The new speaker is clean and clear
and makes the amp sound alive. Beautiful full strat tone on 3 - and add the
tube screamer and it just sings. I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

I also tried the speaker with some other amps - a 1973 50 watt Marshall, 64
Bassman and my 68 Traynor Bassmaster. It made all the amps sound better-
especially the Bassmaster - as good as it always sounds but ever better - for
strat tones and rock tones with my Les Paul - I know I will be getting more
speakers from you in the future.

Again thanks for the great speakers !!!

Hello, Joe.

Some months ago I bought a couple of Jensen C12N speakers from you, which
you shipped to my home in Norway. First of all: Again, thanks for great
service. As I have used the speakers for a while, I am extremely satisfied
with the sound....

I have A/B tested different speakers against the C12N (Eminence, Alnico,
Vintage 30, G12, etc.), but none of these carries the smooth, warm tone as
the C12N, in my ears. The C12N seems like it expresses all frequences in a
good way, and sounds warm and open. My experience is that some of the other
elements sound kind of squeezy(!) when you drive them a little bit, which I
don't fancy. But this is not the case, playing through the C12N, and still
it doesn't loose it's edge. It might not be as sparkling in the clean
sounds, as some of the others, but still wonderful tone for clean sounds, as
well as for crunch and lead sounds.

I play through these things with different guitars, Tele 52 rčissue(put
together in Norway), Strat (60's) with Texas Specials, and a Eugen Tele
(main guitar) with Rio Grande SSH. The Eugen guitar is handcrafted in
Bergen, Norway. I highly recommend Eugen Guitars(www.eugen.no).

It has come to me that choise of speaker is essential to the sound, no
matter what amp I use. And searching for my sound for more than 25 years, it
seems like the C12N takes care of the buisiness for me, regarding any kind
of music styles (ex. Heavy/Metal...guess that's not my thing...) Wonderful!
What else can I say.

I wish you all the best, and God Bless you.

Joe,

I received my Jensen c12n speakers last week and they sound amazing. I'm using the two you sent me, along with two other (new in box) c12n's that I picked up in a trade.I threw them all in a 4x12 cabinet with a Marshall jcm 900, 100watt head. These speakers can handle it all, from very clean to massive distortion, the whole time maintaining a very distinct vintage tone. They are exactly what I was looking for, and a great change of pace from my other 4x12 cab with celestion vintage 30's. The vintage 30's are much more punchy and super sensitive where as the c12n's are smooth and bright. Don't get me wrong, I love both these speakers but I find myself playing on the c12n's more.

Thanks,
Mike

Joe-

Just wanted to thank you for the speedy delivery of the C12N's! Those
turned out to be the absolute perfect choice for my late 70's Pro Reverb.
The amp was pretty much stock (except for the tubes) and the speakers were
really "tired". I used the amp in its purchased condition for a couple
weeks while trying to decide on replacement speakers - the stock set were
flat/lifeless and pretty loose in the lower frequencies. Wanted something
with a nice mid freq curve, smooth bell highs and a tight/punchy low end.
These Jensen C12N RI's absolutely fit the bill. Now, the amp truely covers
the great Mason/contemporary country tones, old school country, Jimi/SRV
blues, sweet sizzly clean jazz, Tom Petty/Black Crows...basically, anything
I've thrown at it! Likes all my guitars (hum and single coil pups) too!
Very nice! I'll be back for a HRD4x10 upgrade in the new year!

Have a great holiday season and thanks again!

Dan

Just purchased two C12Ns and installed in my guitar player's 1965 Fender Twin Reverb. They replaced two somewhat worn-out Oxfords that have seen their day. After installing the C12Ns, I convinced myself and the guitar player that the amp previous to the install was but a shell of a Fender. The Jensens really tightened up everything, especially the low end, which was sounding quite flabby with the Oxfords. I believe we both had a smile on our faces for at least 2 hours. Just played out with them, and our harp player even commented on the great sound of the amp, who new nothing of the change we made.

All that and fast and courteous too. Who could ask for more? Keep up the good work.

Subject: Jensen C12N in a Blues Junior

Joe:
With a little time off work, I was able to review this speaker:

The virtues of the Blues Junior have been extolled on the Fender Forum
and elsewhere. It has been called a “modern classic” and the “shining
star” of Fender’s current amp line. The conventional wisdom of many
players, though, is that the amp needs a retube and speaker change to
realize its full potential. So, I ordered the Jensen C12N, and retubed
with JJ tubes from Eurotubes.

What a difference! As others have said, the stock Eminence sounds dull
and flat, like cardboard. With the changes, the amp is responsive and
dynamic. This speaker has great articulation. Like the old Jensens, it’s
alive and it breathes with tone tone TONE. It has opened up the whole
color of the amp, and it sounded good right out of the box - no long
break-in time required. Plenty of bottom end, and a crispy, crunchy top end.

I’m a blues player, but I’ve always listened to and been influenced by
all kinds of music. I’ve adapted a lot of my acoustic guitar technique
into my electric playing, including all kinds of right hand techniques
such as finger picking, plucking and pulling strings, as well as regular
and jazz style picking. I mention this because with the Jensen, I can
set my amp to a point where I can go from lightly strummed clean chords
to biting leads with just a change in picking attack, not even using the
guitar’s volume and tone controls. I can hear and feel my fingertips or
pick through the speaker. It’s sort of simple: set it and forget it, and
just PLAY. It’s so liberating when your tone is not a distraction!
Lately, I've set aside the overdrive pedals -- just guitar/ cord/ amp,
and it's great.

I’ve been trying out different guitars for this review. My usual set-up
has been a ’94 G & L Legacy through a ’58 tweed Deluxe. The Legacy is a
great little player, but, frankly, I was always a little disappointed
with the lack of bite in the pickups. I’ve had to reconsider, though,
since playing through the C12N. The guitar has that nice vintage Strat
pluck that Leo wanted, but I’m also able to push it now to a bluesy growl:
“Hallelujah! I’m here to testify!”
With a Strat or Tele on the neck pickup and the tone backed off, I get a
full, rich jazz sound. If I switch to mid or bridge pickup and adjust
the tone, my chord work sounds very “acoustic” and chimey, and some of
the unique character of this amp shines through.

I’ve played guitar 40 years and I’ve owned lots of amps - mostly Fender.
My interest in playing electric has waned at times since I work a
regular job, but these simple changes I made to this amp have rekindled
my love of playing. I’m inspired now to play and practice every day, and
it’s a real joy!

I highly recommend the Jensen C12N. It’s available elsewhere for more
money, but why pay more? I also appreciate Joe’s service and input. I
considered a different speaker, but he said the C12N was the right one
for this amp, and he proved right. I was so pleased with this upgrade
that I ordered C12Q’s for my ’66 Bassman, and I’m looking forward to
similar results. Then there’s my tweed Deluxe, and that Deluxe Reverb …
Seriously, anyone who was looking for replacement speakers 10 years ago
should consider these speakers a God send.

Thanks kindly,

Joe and Lisa,

I just wanted you to know I am 100 percent satisfied with my purchase of 1 x
C12N speaker. I had the speaker on my doorstep in less than 30 hrs. from
placing my order. It cost less than my local store could sell it even after
shipping. I put the C12N in an open back 2x12 Tremolux style cab by Mojotone
with an Alltone 1250 beside it. The pairing of the 2 speakers is great and I
couldn't be happier after trying many cabs and speaker combinations. I was
trying to get a bit more clean headroom out of my Winfield Thomas November
amp (a 4 el84 plexi circuit amp) while still retaining the amps great tone.
This was the "magic combination". I can't wait to put together a 4x10 cab
now knowing I can get such great speakers at a reasonable price.

Thank you,
Kenny Hohman

Joe:

Jensen C12N arrived Saturday, several days ahead of schedule. I installed it
on Sunday. Installation: Could not be easier. As if Fender designed the
Blues Junior for modification. The Jensen fit perfectly.
Results: Expectations exceeded! The previous boxy sound, from the stock
Eminence speaker, is gone. With the Jensen, the Blues Junior has become a
true Fender: Dimensional, chiming midrange, clear high end and warm but not
over-stated bass. Every amp should do one thing well, and with the C12N, the
Blues Junior sings with a sweet mid-range, as I had hoped. Even better than
hoped.
I am a long time audiophile, more than I am a musician, and I am sensitive
to speaker quality. The C12N is truly at home in the Blues Junior. I
A-BBB'ed the Eminence through two other amps I have at home, a small
Marshall and a tubed Crate. Guess what: The stock Eminence sounds just as
boxy in them as it did in the Blues Junior. The Eminence now resides in a
box in the garage.
I think the Blues Junior is modern classic, very good design and
construction by Fender, my favorite musical instrument company. But the
little amp really comes into its own with a little tweaking; next, a tube
upgrade.
Thanks for a great speaker, quick service and a competitive price. Feel free
to put this email onto your Web page.
Best/steve

Joe,

The Jensen C12N arrived last night. It went in my Blues Junior this morning, and I'm very pleased with the result. This has got a lot of sparkle and chime, without the muddy mids that the Eminence had. The vibe of this speaker makes it suitable for twangy country, rockin blues, and rock n' roll. I love it, and can't wait till it breaks in! Thanks for the recommendation.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for getting me the speaker so quickly. I put the Jensen C12N into my
Blues Jr. on Friday night and immediately liked the difference. The C12N is
a great choice for adding chime to clean and much better bottom end response
than the stock Eminence speaker in the amp. Once the C12N breaks in I will
send you another email. About how many hours of playing time will the
break-in period take? I don’t play real loud, but I do push enough air to
drive the tubes and speaker a bit.

Thanks for a great sound at a great price.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for the great service and price. I will bookmark your site for sure and tell others as I visit a couple of the larger guitar boards. The C12N Jensen has transformed that Marshall 4203 from a boxy midrange machine to a real tone maker! I love it. It's not even broken in yet and I can tell that the range is so much better. I am going to stick the old Celestion in an extension cabinet for experimentation purposes. I plan to add a little Fender Pro Jr. eventually and will go for Jensen and a re-tube as well. Thanks again!

Joe:

I installed the C12N over the weekend, and I like it a lot. It's tone is
much clearer and well-defined that the Eminence, which I always thought was
muddy. The bass is a lot less boomy. And although the amp is designed to
produce an overdriven sound at relatively low volume levels, even on the
clean channel, the tone is smoother, less harsh. I want a fat, mids-driven
tone, and this speaker is a big improvement.

Thanks again for your great service.

Dear Joe,

You and Lisa have been very helpful with my multiple orders over the last
week. The speakers were packed very well and I appreciated your prompt
emails.
As for the speakers...I first learned of the Jensen Reissues by reading
posts on the Fender Discussion Page (fenderforum.com). I've been intending
to change the stock speaker on my Princeton Reverb II for quite some time
now, and after reading the reviews on the FDP I decided to go ahead with the
Jensen c12n. I also heard of you your webpage from the FDP, for you come
highly recommended (plus your prices are excellent). The c12n in my
Princeton Reverb II was a big improvement over the stock Eminence speaker.
The lower ends were more pronounced, treble response increased, and the
speaker generally had presence to it. I assume it will only get better with
age.
I am also working on bringing a 64 Concert back to life after all of the
original Oxford speakers were basically non-functional. I just threw three
Jensen p10rs and the amplifier sounds wonderful--as a 64 Concert should. I
thought I would leave one of the better Oxfords in, but after hearing it
next to the Jensens, I decided to order one more p10r! (Hence my last order)
In all, I look forward to much playing with the new speakers. Thank you
once again for your excellent service and I hope all goes well with your
business.

A very satisfied customer,

J. Andrew Buhler

Re: Jensen RI

This speaker suprises me everytime I turn the amp on it just gets better and better. I can´t belive the amount of bass coming out. And with a strat I always have plenty of treble. Now I really can heard the wood of the guitar. I also put a fresh set of GHS Nickel Rockers and went from 010 to 011 big difference. (well I used cheap strings before).

Take care
God Bless!

LT,
I just put a Jensen C12N in my BJ last night and it gave me a very good clean sound and much tighter bottom than the stock Eminence. I had a Weber P12QR in the BJ, but it wasn't giving me the clarity in the high end that I wanted. The Weber is good for blues, but no sparkle in the QR configuration. Though I've only played a couple of hours on the Jensen, I'm very happy with the improvement. The Jensens are signifantly less $ than the Webers if that's a consideration for you. I got my Jensen at vintagespeakers.com for $53 including shipping.

Good luck,
BX

I think Weber makes a good product, and I've tried several models, but honest to God I don't think they're any bit better sounding than the Jensen RI stuff. In fact, I've removed my Weber California 12 from my Deluxe Reverb in favor of a Jensen RI C12N. While the Weber does provide a touch more clean headroom (which is the only real advantage I see in the Weber line --- some of their high-power speakers are extremely efficient), it simply does not sound as rich and complex as the Jensen.......Jake

I know regularly people ask for speaker recommendations in a 12" speaker.

Weber is consistently mentioned as first choice.

I had a Weber C12N in a Deluxe Reverb a couple years ago and don't remember much about how it sounded, but I know it sounded good!!

I stuck a Jensen C12N reissue in a silverface Deluxe Reverb I have about a week ago. That is a really good sounding speaker.

Every time I play it I think it sounds better and better the more broken-in it gets.

For $44.95 off the Vintage Speakers site I just think this speaker is a great deal. I paid $50 off Ebay (before I saw the Vintage Speakers site here)!!

This is not a paid advertisement just my obseravation on a lower cost speaker that works really well in a DR and I would assume a PR and TR as well.

I think if you are on any kind of a tight budget and maybe cannot afford the Weber, I would suggest you try the Jensen.

If you need to put speakers in a Twin or Pro Reverb, you could almost buy two Jensens for the cost of one Weber C12N.

One of the really cool things about the DR is the fact that it puts out 22 watts. So you can turn it up past 3 and let that Fender magic happen. (Let me say that I just put in a Jensen RI C12N and it is pretty darn loud on 3!)

2x12 cab with Jensen C12N RI´s

Finally i´m using my new cab for about 2 month now, also having gigged two times with it, and it´s still getting better soundwise!!! It´s custom made (Ruby-Tubes, open back) Fender style, cream tolex/tan grille cloth, and i replaced one of my 4x12 cabs with it. It´s really great with both of my Boogie tops: superb clean (twangy) and a real screamer with overdrive type of stuff. Muuuch better sounding than all the Celestion equipped cabs i´ve ever tried or heard. And it´s loud, a thing i´d definately not expected, even with my 35W head. Loud enough for every club gig! These speakers are a real bargain, and it doesn´t matter how loud you play, they just get smoother and bigger. And...finally the cream coloured top with this cream coloured cab really looks nice

Joe...

I'm setting down my strat for a minute, so I can tell you how much I'm enjoying my new Jensen C12R. FedEx brought it yesterday, and I put it in my Fender Blues Junior in 15 minutes. Now, the BJ is a nice amp, but with the EL84 tubes and the stock Eminence speaker, I've never been able to get a clear, defined tone out of it (at times, I missed my old Ampeg Jet). I used to run the treble at full, the bass at 4, and the mids all the way off, and still got a muddy tone. I'm happy to tell you that has all changed now. The C12R is chimey and crisp, with a hint of vintage sweetness--exactly what I had been missing from my old Ampeg. Somewhere between a Vox and a Fender blackface. Tighter bass, sparkly treble, and clear note definition. It's my understanding this is why some players prefer the ceramic speakers in old blackface Fenders...I'm thinking the C12R in the BJ must be close to that tone. And all this for under 30 dollars, less than the price of 2 new power tubes. I'm sure the sweetness will increase with break-in, but the BJ is already so much more fun to play! And service is quick and friendly too. Now...what do you recommend for a silverface 70's Champ? Here we go again....:)

Thanks!

Dear Joe,
First I wish to thank you and your people at Vintage Speaker for the
kind and informative emails, and not to mention your prompt shipping and
service. Your advice to upgrade the Fisher 12" alnico in the '62
Silvertone 1472, and the 2-12" Jensen C12Q's in the '63 Silvertone 1474,
finally allowed these old tone monsters to breathe! After having both of
these amps serviced w/new caps, etc., it was a worthy investment. But
people must take note to the other half of the amplifier sound equation,
the speaker! The Jensen P12Q 's definately accentuated the midrange,
along with crisp highs, and more articulate pick attack. The improvement
was more evident in the 15 watt 1472, coupled with a tubescreamer, it now
sings an authentic Texas tone! I look forward to finding the next estate
sale prize, and my next order to vintagespeaker.com! Thanks again!

Well, I used the P10R in my Dr.Z last weekend ( along with an older one
I already had in there) and it kicked butt! I had a LOT of compliments
on my tone. To me, the new spkr has not broken in yet and is a little
"brighter" then the older one, but I fully expect it to mellow after a
few more gigs. Also, for this 52 year rocker, the lighter Alnico Jensens
(vs. 10 lbs of Dr.Z Ceramics that were in there) is a nice fringe
benefit.

They sound amazing, and i have yet to try them with my accoustic, but I have a lot of nuances and feeling with my telecaster 72. Plus I guess the sound was influneced by the arrival of spring and sunshine here! The sound is clearer, brighter, but still have a lot of warmth, allthough i am told they need to be played a bit to get the real tone out. I will recommend you anyway to this nice amp repair man in Paris who seems to have a lot of trouble to get by them. Thanks again, Joe and best regards here from France.

Hi Joe-

The speaker fit into my Fender Pro Jr. without incident. The build
quality of the speaker is excellent.

How does it compare to the stock Eminence that was in there? After 6-8
hours of playing, there is much more clarity in the lower registers. E
and G chords sound full and clear.

This is a very bright speaker overall. I find that I can now use the tone
controls on my guitar more effectively to cut out some of the brightness
(or dial it up). Considering that the Eminence sounded somewhat 'boxy,'
my guitar's tone controls were ineffective on the sound. They now give
much greater control with the Jensen.

I typically don't crank the volume past 4-5 on the amp. At that volume
setting there's just a hint of grit when you bang out some higher notes.
Sounds great!

- Jeff

Hello Joseph,
Just a note to tell you how well the Jensen P10R worked in my amp. First of
all I put it into a relatively new stock Laney LC15R. It made a massive
improvement in the tone, especially with the breakup when the ouput tubes
started clipping. Funny that this amp sounds so much better than my Deluxe
Reverb, Laney VC30, Laney GH50L, and all the other Marshalls I've previously
owned. I wish I had done this to my other amps and maybe I wouldn't have
had so many cycled through my collection.

Tone-wise it has that sought after British "brown sound" even better than my
old 70's JCM 800 driving a 1960A cab with stock Celestions.

I can't stop grinning especially when I play "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" by
Pink Floyd through this little "off-the-shelf" marginal practice amp. I'll
have to do something like this for my other combo amps and my Marshall cab.

I appreciate the great price, great communications and blazing fast
delivery. I'll be getting more speakers from you soon.

Regards,
Tom Roach

Subject: Comments on P10R-4 Ohm in Vibro Champ
Date: Thu, 11 Mar 2004 09:35:03 -0500

Joe,

The (P10R-4) arrived yesterday and I installed it late last night. I tested
it out this morning.

The P10R-4 Ohm sounds great in the Vibro Champ, both by itself and also with
my Fulldrive 2, especially in the comp cut setting. I can hear the
resemblance to the four P10Rs I had in my '59 Bassman reissue, after taking
into account that they are different amps and after taking into account that
it is just one speaker instead of four.

I look forward to using it at rehearsal tonight at church. I am miked
through the P.A. for a room of 750 people.

The P10R did fit in the Vibro Champ [October, 1965, from tube chart], but just barely.
There was already a bigger hole cut out for the Quam 10" speaker that I took out. The P10R's
frame is a little taller toward the edges than the Quam, so I had to move
the speaker over about 1/4 inch from left to right to make it fit. I have
about 1/8 inch clearance between the frame and the Mallory type FP can
capacitor. I think Fender should have originally issued the Vibro Champ
with this 10" speaker. I have read that the 8 inchers on the old ones don't
last forever if you drive them hard.

I installed the speaker upside down. I used the RCA plug and wires
that were already in the amp. (black wire on negative post and white wire on positive post)

Thanks again for your help!

Joe,

Just got my Jensen P10R two days ago and installed it last night. All I can say is WOW! Your recommendation for my setup was bang on. I never knew my amp could sing like that! The alnico magnet sure makes a difference over the Fender ceramic speaker I had in the amp to beta test it. Whereas the Fender was muddy, dark and lifeless, the P10R is beautiful, sparkly, full and musical. The tight response gives definition around each chorded note, while the speaker's voicing provides that gently clipped vintage tone I was seeking. Putting my TubeScreamer out front, there's a huge reduction in muddiness - the Jensen cuts right through.

I feel I also received excellent value. Besides offering the best deal anywhere on the net, I saved major bucks buying from you even when factoring in the shipping and customs brokerage. I figure I saved about 60% by importing from you rather than going direct throught the Canadian distributor's channels. Shipping was very fast and the speaker was packed very well (double boxed and bubble-packed).

Your expertise and experience helped me achieve major tone - I'd heartily recommend you to anyone and would gladly provide a glowing referral where needed.

Many thanks again!

Hello Joe,
I got the pair of Jensen P10R's today and installed
them in my Vibrolux. All I can say is Wow! What really
gets me pumped is that I know they will sound even
better after they break in. Originally I had the blue
frame fender speakers in there that came with the amp,
I then put in some Webers that were nice but just
didn't have the fender clean sounds I like, and the
overdrive sounds were too harsh and midrangy. When I
installed the Jensens I could see right off why Fender
puts them in the new Vibrolux's and the Super Reverbs.
These speakers were made for this amp. They have great
clean tones and jangly slightly overdriven tones, but
they can get down and dirty Texas blues tones when
pushed, they are perfect for my application.... Thanks
for the great deal and fast delivery!

Kevin

Just wanted to forward a hearty thank you for the P10R's. I'm sorry it took me so long to load the P10R's, but I am proud to say that I installed them the day after we spoke..out of shame.

I always felt my Supers sounded great, but brother let me tell you there is a huge difference in tonal spectrum using the P10's. I had P10 blueframes in my Vibro King and they just farted when I put the bottom end juice to them, which is what caused my initial reluctance to install them in my Supers.

But the new speakers you just sent me were dramatically improved. I found that with a little treaking on the controls I can accomplish anything. They are so much more versatile than the Eminence 50 watt ceramics I was using.

Our group (APB) just returned from Ashville, NC. We did a show at one of the nicest concert venues around. The venue is called the Orange Peel. They had a state of the art facility, backline, dressing rooms, and staff of any place I've played. We had their engineer pop in a DAT and you can hear all of the complexities and tonal signature of the P10R's coming through.

Kudos for a fantastic product, and your on-target recommendation for my style of play. They gracefully pierce through the equalization mud layer we all experience periodically in this business.

I would like to order another quad to load into my other Super. They're a bit mismatched right now and I've been doing some combo work with Artimus lately and I've been splitting my rigs on stage to increase my stage presence. That's where you can really do the A/B test.

I'm rambling. Anyway Joe, thank you so much for believing in your products enough to emphatically recommend a solution when you hear the need. And for being a real friend in this business.

Sincerely,

Phil Swindle

Fender 1976 Princeton Reverb silverface. This amp had an original Oxford 10" speaker in it's belly. It was okay, but it lacked personality and overall oomph. Frankly, it was old and tired. Not blown, just tired.
I wanted to capture the sound of an alnico magnet with a vintage flair.
With the P10R, I got it. This was the perfect choice for this amp. The clean tone is stunning. The grind and dirt is splendid. Like my review of the P12N's in my Deluxes, the P10R also brought out more articulation and definition to it's sound. Again, like removing the gag from it's mouth. Louder, more tone, more efficiencey. When I play my jazz boxes through this little beauty, it's truly the sound of greatness. When I want to get more bluesey, it's all right there. With the volume at 5-6 this amp puts out plenty.
As with my Deluxes and my Princeton, 'playing' the amp has become much more apparent, and much more fun!
Joe, thank you for all of your help and support. You helped me take my prized amps to whole new level with a very simple upgrade and expert advice.

Mr. Scinta:

I'm just writing to tell you how pleased I am with the Jensen P10R that
I purchased from your company. I recently built a low-power,
single-ended guitar amplifier and was searching for the right speaker to
mate it with. After trying a Celestion Vintage 10 and an Emminence 10"
speaker I realized that I needed a speaker with a little less bass
response and a different break-up characteristic. I pulled a Jensen
P10R out of my Fender amp. and I was sold - I had to get one for it.
These Jensen speakers are really wonderful sounding speakers. Thanks
for the great service.

Hi Joe,

The P10R Jensens arrived today and I installed them in my 74 Super Reverb
(which has been "blackfaced"). The amp came with CTS alnico 10s that sounded
smooth but were pretty well worn and had become weak and muddy. I had
originally tried C10Q Jensens in the amp (which I also got from you, by the
way) for about 6 months. They sounded good in the amp but while louder than
the CTS 10s they were "stiffer" and didn't have the high end "sparkle" I was
looking for. I eventually took them out and sold them. After playing the
P10Rs for about an hour with different guitars and effects I have to say I
think they are keepers in the amp. They are smooth like the CTS speakers
were but are more responsive and have the "sparkle" in the high end that I
was looking for. I imagine they will only get better as they break in.

Joe,

You were right on about these speakers. (P10R) I put them in my 67 Super Reverb
and they sound GREAT. They fixed the exact things that bothered me about
the amp. The old thickness in the sound was gone and the bass was tighter.
This is a faster sounding speaker than the originals and it makes the amp
sounds bigger and more detailed!!! I suspect they will also get better as
they break in, but no complants right now. The old cliché about it sounding
like a blanket has been taken off the amp applies here.

I am also very pleased with your service and advice. I received the
speakers in 4 business days!!!.

Subject: P10R's- they worked out well
To: jscinta@ken-ton.com

Joe,

I ordered some P10R's from you a few weeks ago. I have gigged with them a
bit and here's what I have found:

First off, they went into a Fender Vibroking. This is not an amp noted for
it's headroom, but I am trying to squeeze a little more out of it. I am
currently running it with 5751's in the preamp to drop the gain a bit.

I have had the amp since I bought it new in 1996. I think the Blueframes
that came stock sound good at a low volume, but tend to get muddy and "farty"
at 2.5 and above on the volume knob. I had been reasearching what I should
put in the amp to keep the natural tone of the amp, but eliminate the flabby
bass response.

I tried some Celestion Vintage 10's that a friend had. I replaced 2 and kept
one blueframe. This didn't work out well since the Celestions seemed to get
the majority of the load. The amp also lost sparkle and gain some major
thump. This wasn't what I was looking for, so the amp went back to stock.

Switching speakers is a crap shoot (and not a cheap one, either). I figured
I would give the Jensens a shot since Fender is using them now on the current
production of this amp.
They seem to be a lot more efficent than the Blueframes. The amp is louder
overall. The bottom is tighter and the highs are still sparkley. The mids
seem to dip as compared to the blueframes. I'm hoping the speakers keep
these characteristics as they break in. I realize they will loosen up a bit,
but I hope not too much.

By comparison, the Blueframes sound "tired". The Jensens sound more HiFi.
The blueframes are much mid-ier than the Jensens. I'm wondering if the
Blueframes are supposed to sound that way, or I just have abused them over
the last 5 or 6 years. I also have a Bassman RI that has 4 blueframes that
does not get the farty simptoms that my Vibroking exhibited. Different
circut, I guess

Overall, I am very happy with the purchase. I would not hesitate to
recommend you to others (in fact, I already did on the only guitar BBS that I
go to).

Thansk again,
-Sean

A good compromise might be a mix; I have 2 Jensen RI P10Rs and 2 C10Qs in my 4x10 brown Concert and I think it sounds pretty great. If you put the P10Rs in the top they will project more than the C10Qs, but you will still get a nice tight bottom end. I ordered my speakers from a place
online and they were hella cheap (less than $150 for all four) and got here in less than a week.

I replaced the stock vintage carvin 12 speakers which come are standard in the Bel Air 212 with anlico jensen p12s.. The results are remarkable. The tone has been transcended from a muddy sound to much more clearly defined and richer tone, with broader, cleaner range. Highs are crystal clear, lows are tighter and more defined. The difference is in the clarity of guitar cords in both channels. Individual notes ring through in much more defined way. This upgrade is friendly reminder that 50% of your sound is in the speaker.

Joe!
I took delivery of two of the Jensen C10Q's about a month ago. I
installed them in a single cabinet, which I wired for a 2 speaker 4 Ohm
setup or a 2 X 1 speakers at 8 Ohm each setup. I did this to match the two
different settings for my Behringer LX1200H head unit.
The C10Q's are rated at 35 Watts (at 8 Ohms) with a musical power of 70
Watts. The Behringer lists at 60 watts per side stereo (8 Ohms) or 120
watts mono (4 Ohms).
Either the Jensens are very "underrated" or the Behrenger is "overrated"
(or a little bit of both), because the speakers seem very well matched to
this amp. The total performance seems much superior in stereo mode, driving
each speaker at 8 Ohms. The highs are crisp and there is plenty of mid and
bottom end. I was actually going to enclose the back of the cabinet (to get
more bottom end), but that proved to be unnecessary. The extra presence of
two speakers coupled with the stereo effects in the amplifier (echo, delay,
tremolo etc.), gives this set-up a "huge" sound. I am entirely satisfied
with your recommendation for these speakers. I note that Behringer has
just come out with 2x10 combo for this amplifier with 2x10 inch "Bugera"
speakers.
The Jensens add a lot to the sound, and are very similar in overall
dynamic quality to the Jensen C12N in my Fender Blues' Jr.

Another benefit to 2x10's is that it makes for much less overall weight
(as compared to 2x12's), which at my age, has much to recommend it.

By the way, "Shavano Music Online" is a great web-site for instructions
on how to wire speaker cabinets.

It's amazing! It's in an old Danelectro Centurion 275 Series F and compares
very well with my father-in-law's same model with the original Jenson. We
both think it sounds great and could use a little breaking in to loosen it
up and give it a bit more growl, but I don't mind doing that! It is a great
product and I would buy it again from you 10 times over. Thanks a lot!

Hi Joe,

Got the C10Q's and I'm extremely pleased. They blow away the speakers that
were in my amp. Really tight low end and no ear splitting highs. Definetly
the right choice for my blues/old r&b playing style.
Quick delivery too. I'll certainly recommend you to my comrades in arms.

Thanks again.

Hi: Joe, just a note to say thanks for the demonstration at the Hearthstone manor yesterday.
My friend and I each bought a C10Q for our vintage gibson amps.
You were right!
They sound just great.
Didn't know a 15 watt amp could sound so loud.
The speakers are a huge improvement over the original CTS.

Joe,
Just wanted to drop you a note to tell you that I love the Jensen C10Qs I ordered from you. I'm playing guitar through a early 1970s Fender Bassman head into a 4-10 cabinet loaded with the C10Qs and they've exceeded my expectations. I appreciate you advising me to go with the C10Qs rather than the Mod 10-50s. I want you to know that I'm recommending both the speakers and www.vintagespeaker.com to my brother who is thinking about upgrading his speakers in the near future.

A very satisfied customer,

Not a problem,

Let me say though that the C10Q is probably the best 10" speaker on the
market today. I bought one and put it in a Kalamazoo Model 1, the result was
a sweet, toneful amp, that could break up and bark when needed. My guitar
player as well is of the opinion that the Jensen C10Q is best speaker on the
market (aside of a Naylor speaker he is quite partial to). He has a Super
Reverb that has 2 of these in it with a JBL and a Oxford on top, he says by
far the saving grace of the amp is the two Jensen C10Q's on the bottom. He
says the JBL ads something a little different but by and large its the C10Q's
which make the amp what it is. I plan on getting more of these, I wanna try
it in a Bassman.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Joe,
Just wanted to let you know that I have installed the P12N in my Deluxe Reverb Reissue. I just couldn’t be more amazed by the sound . The first thing I noticed was how much more “TOUCH SENSITIVE “ the amp is now. There is about maybe three hours playing time on it now, and sounding sweeter all of the time. J

This amp sounds great Biased at about 24 to 25 MA, and tubed with 6V6’s for the earlier breakup.

The Princeton Reverb silverface is just incredible for basement practice or small gigs. It has had some mods done to it, but nothing on par with this speaker replacement. To say that the P10Q is a better speaker than that old Celestion that was in it is putting it mildly !

Thanks Again,

Hi Joe,
The speaker arrived safe and sound and installed flawlessly. It sounds
great. I don't want to come off like I'm a pro or anything, like I told you,
I basically play for myself in my home. In my amateur opinion the little
Blues Jr. @ $400 sounds pretty darn good right out of the box. However, by
swapping the Eminence speaker (a re-badged Legend 125) for the Jensen
Vintage Reissue P12N you sent me, the sound is noticeably smoother. The main
thing I hear is that the Jensen eliminates the shrill highs (the ice pick in
the ear) that the stock speaker produced. The sound is also noticeably more
warm and creamy overall. Another neat feature is that since Fender is
marketing this series of amps as retro, with the narrow panel slant cabinet,
top mounted controls, etc., a vintage reissue Jensen speaker seems quite
appropriate. Overall, a very nice upgrade. Thanks again for a great price on
a great product and for the individualized customer service.

Sincerely,
David Hughes

The new speaker arrived on wednesday. I immediately removed the stock speaker from my blues Jr. and installed the Jenson. Thank you for recommending the speaker. It made an amazing difference in the tone. I can crank the amp up and it GROWLS. The highs are much smoother and the low end is tighter and deeper sounding. I must say that the new tubes I installed helped the sound as well, of course it might have needed new tubes anyway, as the old ones were around for a couple years. I took it to practice and my other guitarist immediately noticed the difference. It's hard to believe that I am getting this sound out of a $400 amp that only weighs about 30 pounds. Thanks again,

The sound nearly brought tears to my eyes it sounded so smooth!!!! I put all JJ tubes in it and have been searching for this sound for almost 2 years. With all the controls on 12 (bass mid and Treb) it sounds amazing with the volume on 2 or 6 it just gets better and better.I played my Telecasters, 1953 Gretsch, and Les Paul and Strat and it sounds like this amp was custom made for each guitar! I feel like I should pay more than the $120 for this speaker as it made a $400 amp sound like Stevie Ray, BBKing ,Ray Flack, and Luther Perkins blessed this amp. Thanks Joe, Always a pleasure. I think the P12Ns are great. Very solid
bottom end, still airy and chimey. These are going in my Marshal Bluesbreaker. The P12Ns have all the midrange complexity of the Celestion Greenbacks (which is a high compliment)plus a lot tighter bottom and that unmistakeable alnico purr. I don't know why everyone thinks putting Jensens with a Marshall is sacreligious?

Sounds good with that smooth KT66 overdrive and when I back off the volume on the guitar it cleans up at least as nice as my Fender. I still have some tone-work to do but these aren't going back...I may get one more for a future project. I may use Marshalls, Les Pauls and Telecasters but I DON'T sound like every other guitar picker in the clubs : )

Dear Joe,

I just wanted to give you an update on the P-12N that you recommended for my Deluxe Reverb. It sounds absolutely wonderful. Punchy, complex overtones, w/ a fat low end. I knew my tubes and circuitry were flawless yet the amp with the original Utah sounded too brittle and harsh. The P-12N is everything you said it would be. The only thing I would add is that there was a break-in period with this speaker. Its becoming smoother the more I play it.

You'll get my repeat business and I'll recommend you to everyone I know....

Much louder than before. More efficient. Better grind and better clean.
I equate it to removing the 'gag' from it's mouth.
For the first time, I am really hearing these amps.
The difference is remarkable. Notes articulate and bloom with better definiition. I feel as if the amps are actually happier! Their voice is really being heard now. An incredible change. Joe,

That speaker sounds absolutely great! I'm really glad I went with the Jensen because for one, it stays truer to the original speaker, and also besides sounding fantastic, it was less expensive than the Celestion. When I drive those tubes, the speaker retains a bright crispness in the high end without losing any oomph in the deep end. Since there's no tone control on the amp, that's perfect. I love that tube driven distortion! I had thought about modifying this amp to serve as a pre-amp for distortion purposes, but I decided not to because I don't want to mess with such a cool piece of vintage equipment.
Thanks for a GREAT speaker!

Joe,
I am writing for several reasons. First of all I
recieved the new p12n and put it in my '68 Deluxe

short of amazing. Every effect, guitar, and every amp
setting sounds good. Even with distortion all the
notes are very articulate even to the 24th fret of my
custom hollowbody. So I must say I am very impressed
and the speaker is there to stay for a long, long
time. Thanks.
Your customer service and concern for tone is truly
commendable. I admit, I was somewhat skeptical about
the sonic qualities of the p12n at first--but somehow
you knew something could be wrong with either the amp
OR the speaker and you were absolutely right. Thank
you for calling me up on the phone and convincing me
otherwise. The jensen and a blackface fender are
truly a perfect match and now I am a believer.....

Thanks for making things right, and for standing by a
very fine product.

We changed from Eminence Special Design speakers to Jensen C12K's in the '65 Twin and '65 Deluxe approximately one year ago. The Eminence sounded good, and was available in the early '90's when the Reissues came out (Jensen as a company was dead.) The Jensen sounded good, plus it says "Jensen" on it.

The C12K handles a little more power than the C12N, which country and jazz players like; while the C12N is prized by "vintage heads" for its sparkle and its ability to be driven easily into distortion. Take your pick... if you buy a new '65 Twin and want to experiment, none of these speakers are tons o' money.

hi curious!
i havn´t had the nerve to type in your link yet, but i can speak for the regular chmap/vibrochamp (if this is what you´re looking at). they go from $150-250 (silverface, depending on condition) and they NEED a speaker upgrade. mine (´81 model vibrochamp, 2nd series blackface) came with the original oxford, and by chance i stumbled on a used jensen c8r ri. the jensen made the amp literally 2-3 times as loud! with strong highs and punchy bass. these are nice amps for around the house (plenty loud, too) if you don´t mind that there are no actual "features" (except vibrato on the vc). however, i don´t think that they sound THAT stellar. i just aquired a bf princeton (non reverb) and the vc is now history i´m afraid...
if this seems like an unfair comparison - i paid $320 for the princeton - well worth the 70 bucks upgrade i´d say
cheers - C.

While surfing the net, I came across Koch amps (Dutch). I've heard that they are similar to Mesa's approach...Fender clean, Marshall overdrive tones. They use Jensen speakers from their combo to full stack amps.

_______________

Received the speaker Mon 1/14, got back in town last night. Swapped out the speaker, plugged in and fell down! I had read and heard about the alleged improvement that speaker upgrades could provide, but I wasn't ready for this one. It honestly sounds like a totally different amp. The OEM speaker gave the amp such a dark sound and at 75-100% volume, it just really distorted, in a bad way. Now I can go 100% volume (which is really how small amps should be treated) with only the slightest bit of distortion, but it is a good sounding distortion. The sound IS bigger as you described, and with a clarity I had not expected. Count me as a very satisfied customer.

Can't wait to try it with some pedals in the signal path. But the clean sounds so good, I might have to switch to country music.

Thanks again.

Hey Joe -

Thanx for the fast ship! That was nice. I decided to hold off a couple days because the Line 6 (15 wtt) practice amp I bought was the last one - a floor model, and I'm sure that had something to do with the speaker rattle. So I got a brand new one in a box today - they swapped it out. I came home and burned in the OEM for about an hour, and then stashed it away with silicon packs. I couldn't wait to drop the Alnico in! I broke it in slowly for about an hour with the middle pick up, just strumming jazz progressions with little percussive pops now and then, full bottom and mid, treb half way. As I slowly and gradually raised the gain, I could immediately hear the difference in enunciation. The chords were cleaner, single notes were cleaner. The BIG noticeable difference though was that all five positions on the pickups were defined as they should be - the stock speaker delivered real lousy in this aspect, each position just sounding muddy with only the neck/middle position delivering something fairly acceptable. The Jensen P8R has definitely improved the overall delivery, however, the amp itself leaves a lot to be desired. The electronics are really cheap. Plus, I had to tighten down every screw on the cabinet to stop it from rattling! But hey, its a $99 practice amp. I'm glad I went with the more expensive Alnico - it makes my Fender sound like a strat should. I'm really happy with the results. And thanks for the best price on the internet too!

Peace

Hi Joe,

I received the speaker this past Monday (Jensen P8R-8). Nice job on
packing the speaker and thanks for the quick shipping (placed the order
the prior Thursday).

I installed it in my Fender Bullet Reverb (it fit perfectly) without any
problems. My inital impression is that the highs are definitely brighter
without being harsh/brittle, along with more depth in the overall sound. I
don't think the lows/bass changed at all (not much you can expect from an
8" speaker). The sound of the individual strings is more pronounced when
playing clean, and adding a little reverb really makes it sound nice. I
really hear the difference in the highs on the gain channel - again much
brighter but not harsh. I'm sure as I play it more and fiddle with the EQ
settings I'll get some nice sounds depending on what I'm playing.

I'm very pleased with this speaker as well as the overall buying
experience - you answered all my emails and were very helpful on the
phone. What a difference a new speaker can make in an amp. I highly
recommend a speaker upgrade to anyone looking to take their existing amp
to another level. Again, this is just a 15w solid-state Fender practice
amp (which many other people really like from what I've read on web forums
- it's really a nice little amp), but this speaker upgrade did wonders to
the sound.

Thanks again,
John

Joe,

I received the P8R-4 Jensen speaker today and immediately replaced the
Jensen Mod that come in my used '70s Silver Face Virbo Champ. Holy mole
what a difference! I had not been able to turn up the bass on the Mod past
3 without major speaker buzz and the best bass that the Mod could muster was
reminiscent of a herd of well fed buffalo. The P8R-4 has a warm rich
bottom-end with clear highs and a controllable and predictable break up.
That was even before I replaced a bad driver tube. It sounds spot on with
my single-coil hollow body and equally well with my Telecaster. I was
seriously ready to get rid of this amp but this speaker has resurrected it.
I am willing to bet that it sounds better now than it did when it was new.
Thanks for making these available at a working man's price and for the fast
delivery. I wish you continued success!

Hello Joe,

I said I'd get back to you on the sound of the Jensen P8R4 I put into
my Epiphone 5 watt Valve Junior combo amp, so here I am to give you
feedback. I'm glad I paid a little extra to get the Alnico magnet
instead of the ceramic version of this speaker. This is exactly the
kind of tone I was looking for. The Alnico pickups in my guitars work
perfectly with the Jensen Alinco driver. Now I can hear the tubes
breaking up when they're pushed, not the hash of the cheap stock
speaker breaking up. I replaced the stock Sovtek tubes as well, and
now I have a great sounding practice amp that can actually play
pretty darned loud. 5 watts from a tube amp is much louder than from
a solid state amp (not to mention a lot nicer to listen too). Just
because you don't have much money to spend, you no longer have the
excuse not to practice with a tube amp. For $119 + the Jensen P8R4
and a couple new tubes (for a total still under $200), you can have
the tone and responsiveness of a real tube amp, not some crummy tube
hybrid combo. Thanks for the great service and fast shipping. Your
prices are the best!

Take care,

of course i took them home right after work and threw them into the cabinet, wired em up and HOLY FREAKIN'
HANNAH. what a sound. everthing i've read about these speakers is true. in your face prescence and tone, beautifull articulation of chords, sweet mellow breakup when you dial it in and without losing any articulation.
why did i wait so long. i'll be back for more. thanks and best regards,
jeff rendinaro

Subject: Feedback concerning P8R
Date: Sat, 17 Jan 2004 15:11:50 -0800

I put the 4ohm P8R in my 1969 vibro champ the other day. It dropped in very
easily and was a perfect fit. It sounded fantastic right off the bat.
Everyone talks about speaker "break-in"; this speaker sounds great
instantly. Any break-in improvements will be a bonus.

The speaker is nicely balanced. Great sparkly crisp treble, without being
too harsh. The mids are very woody with a nice edge when the amp breaks up.
The bass was not a dramatic improvement over the stock Oxford which actually
had decent bass for an 8" speaker. However, the big difference is heard when
the volume increases. The stock Oxford would fart out badly on low notes.
And I don't mean that nice squishy tweed deluxe kind of farting. I mean a
nasty splatty sound that is useless. The Jensen holds together much better
as the amp is cranked. I can bang on the low E of my Tele and the speaker
hangs right in there. The best part about the speaker is that it has that
true Alnico tone; that nice spongy, plucky, woody, airy sound. It never
sounds harsh or stiff like many ceramic speakers can.

Overall, I am very pleased. The new speaker did exactly what I wanted it to
do; it did not fundamentally change the tone of my amp. I liked the tone I
just wanted a slightly more robust speaker. The Jensen is just was the
doctor ordered.

Thanks

Tyler

Hello Joe:
Got the Jensen P8R-4 today and put it in my SF Vibro Champ immediately. What a difference!

The Rola that was in it was OK, but tired.

The Jensen has a much more robust sound. First of all, the amp is significantly louder overall, with much better definition at all volumes.

The clean sounds are highly detailed, rich, and full -- much bigger sounding than it was.

The overdriven sound is phenomenal. I plugged in my ES 335, turned it up to about 8 and struck a chord - Wow! Deep, full, and with complete composure. And it’s not even broken in. Palm-muted aggressive picking produced a nice percussive attack - night and day compared with the old speaker.

Great speaker, great service, and a great price - thanks for everything, Joe. I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience.

Joe,

Just wanted to let you know that the Jensen speaker sounds great! In addition to
replacing the old (non-stock) speaker which was ripped, I had the filter cap and
output tube replaced. The combination of the three really brought my amp back to
life. The speaker sounds crystal clear until about 4-5 at which time it really
starts to breakup nicely. I'm very happy I chose the Jensen 8" Alnico for my
Silverface Champ. It's a perfect combination that will only sound better over
time.

Thanks,

David Dersh

Love the Jensen 8" speaker. You made my day. Thanks

FYI--much much better than the Top Hat I had put in last year as

Best wishes for your success in distribution!

Joe,
I've put the Jensen P10R in my '56 Fender Princeton, the previous owner cut
the front panel for a
10" "Fender Special Design" speaker (I should have removed it first!), so I
figured it would be easier and faster to just stick with a 10" and save the
8" I ordered for future use. Who knows I might find a Fender Champ or another
small amp that can use the 8"!
The P10R sounded amazing from the first plunk on my Telecaster...punchier,
fuller, and seemingly louder.
It's a great speaker and it was a pleasure doing business with your company,
and will recommend you to others.

Joe,
I recently purchased C8R-4 Speaker for my Kustom Tube 12 practice amp. The original speaker was
Celestion Red Label 8" which broke-up too easily under ever mild overdrive conditions. The new
Jenson Vintage Speaker is much warmer sounding and is much more controlled, even under high
volume overdrive situations. The amp is louder and sounds like a much more expensive full tube
amplifier now. Thanks for your wonderful product and service.

Kind regards,

Hi Joe,

I want to thank you for getting the speakers to me so quickly. I blew
out the Jensen 8" I have in my homemade tube amp and needed a
replacement. You saved me so much as compared to other vendors that I
bought two (just in case I blow another one by accident). They arrived
Saturday which to me was incredibly fast - considering I'm in CA. That
was a welcome surprise as I needed it for Sunday morning ( I play
electric guitar on the worship team at my church).

As for comments about sound, I've found the 8" C8R4 to be a great
speaker for my amp. I pretty much designed my amp around the C8R4 and
the thing has a great clean sound with shimmering highs that bigger
speakers don't seem to match.

Thanks again for your great service.

God bless,

Mark

Joe,
Thank you very much for your mail.

I'll post a feedback on your site.
I want 8-ohm because this is for my Cordvox Leslie Speaker.
It is smaller than Fender vibratone and easy to handle.
It is very difficult to get 8-ohm C8R in Japan.(We can get 4-ohm easiliy for substitute Champ's)
Also,I've been using New P12N for my '54 tweed deluxe.
It is greater than the original or D-120.

Thank you,

Hi Joe-

I installed the Jensen C8R-4 in my 12-watt Peavey Rage 108 practice amp.
What a great upgrade and a great sonic improvement! For a low-powered,
solid-state practice amp, I never expected a lot of volume or tone from
it. As a practice amp, its just for portability and quiet nights
playing in the living room. With the new (very affordable) Jensen
speaker, some eq tweaking on the amp, and tone adjustments on the guitar,
my archtop sounds wonderful. Clear highs and a nice low end that I didn't
expect from an 8" speaker. The speaker took about 8-10 hours to break in.
Thanks again for a great product and great service.

- Jeff

I dropped the Jensen C8R-8 into my SS Fender Tweed Bronco. What a
difference. No more tinny sound from my exhausted original speaker, and it
gives up nothing on the portability of the amp. I highly recommend the
change and can only imagine it will get better with time.

I think Jensens are just in the shadow of speakers like Celestion simply
because the bulk of your guitar playing market are rock oriented players who
want something that can "crank." Celestions are known to have that
characteristic British edge, which is something a guy like me infrequently
uses in his sound. I've seen some nice custom combo amps on the web,
purported to be designed for jazz guitarists, that sport Celestion speakers,
and I really can't see why. And I can get a Jensen to "crank" when I play
around with trying to imitate a heavy rock sound, but I'm certainly no
expert in that arena. Since my recent Jensen purchase, I'm absolutely
convinced that they're the most well-rounded speaker on the market. So, for
me, why look any further? Take care.

Hi Joe,
on Saturday I got the caps I needed to refurbish the '58 LP Jr I bought
the P8R for. I sat down to work and a couple hours later it was all done,
new speaker and all. The older stock speaker, an alnico 5x7 oval, was a
definite mark against the amp, sounding toward the 'fartier' end of
the overdrive spectrum. The P8R, though, is amazing. The sound is crisp
but full, with good projection and often surprising volume. The amp sounds
a lot cleaner now with the larger speaker, but with a boost to the signal
the overdrive eases in nicely. It's still not too 'dirty' a sound, but I'm
not at all disappointed. Couldn't be happier with the results. Thanks!

Joe, I got the speakers Thursday and managed to get to installing them
yesterday. When I first picked up the box I thought they were a little
light. Upon examining the speakers they look well built but the magnets
seemed a little small for putting in my 4 x 10 bass box (I am a bass
player). Well I installed them into my Ampeg 4 x 10 and cranked up the
amp. With the Ampeg 70 watt solid state amp they sound very good, tight
bass sound. When
